V-Ray for Rhino 1.5 Beta now open

Design8 is excited to announce the V-Ray 1.5 for Rhino Beta! Now, V-Ray for Rhino users will benefit from many new features and improvements, including real-time rendering using V-Ray RT, optimized image-based lighting with the new Dome Light, and efficient memory management using Proxy objects.

New features

V-RayRT - a revolutionary new rendering engine that provides instant feedback and streamlines scene setup. Because V-RayRT is built upon the same robust core as V-Ray, it is seamless to transition between the two.

Dome Light - provides a simple, artifact-free solution for creating image based lighting. Its powerful importance sampling analyzes HDR images to optimize light tracing and GI precision.

V-Ray Proxy - indispensable tool for managing scene memory and efficiently rendering massive amounts of geometry. V-Ray Proxy objects are dynamically loaded and unloaded at render time, saving vital RAM resources.

Lens Effects (Glare / Bloom ) - simulate the natural lens effects that occur when photographing highlights.

Dispersion - provides the ability to trace and refract light based on its wavelength, creating even more realistic results.

Retrace Threshold - reduces Light Cache artifacts and improves the appearance of glossy reflections and refractions when using the time-saving feature - Use light cache for glossy rays.

Ambient Occlusion - generates shading based on an object’s proximity, making it an effective solution for enhancing GI details without significantly increasing render time.

VRayDirt - simulates shading around corners and crevices of objects based on a radial distance. VRayDirt can be used to produce a variety of effects, including ambient occlusion renderings.

Interpolation (Reflections and Refractions) - accelerates rendering by approximating and caching the effects of glossy reflections and refractions.

IES Light -uses photometric data to provide accurate light definition.

Sphere Light- adds a spherical area light to the V-Ray 1.5 for Rhino toolset.

Additional Parameters such as roughness for diffuse BRDFs, along with exit color and max. depth for reflections and refractions, provide new levels of control when creating materials in V-Ray 1.5 for Rhino.

Better Rhino Integration

V-Ray 1.5 for Rhino supports the RDK Sun and can be used in conjunction with the VRaySun/ Sky system.

V-Ray 1.5 for Rhino supports the 32 and 64 bit versions of Rhino 5.0 as well as the 32 bit version of Rhino 4.0

Google Earth Pro v6.2 Available

Google takes bird's eye view to a whole new level with the latest version of Google Earth. Google Earth 6.2 is the most beautiful Google Earth yet, with more seamless imagery and a new search interface. Additionally, a feature is introduced that enables you to share an image from within Google Earth, so you can now simply and easily share your virtual adventures with family and friends on Google+.

A seamless globe

The Google Earth globe is made from a mosaic of satellite and aerial photographs taken on different dates and under different lighting and weather conditions. Because of this variance, views of the Earth from high altitude can sometimes appear patchy.

Today, Google introduces a new way of rendering imagery that smoothes out this quilt of images. The end result is a beautiful new Earth-viewing experience that preserves the unique textures of the world’s most defining geographic landscapes—without the quilt effect. This change is being made on both mobile and desktop versions of Google Earth. While this change will appear on all versions of Google Earth, the 6.2 release provides the best viewing experience for this new data.

Share your explorations with Google+

Google Earth is a great way to virtually explore the globe, whether revisiting old haunts or checking out a future vacation spot. With the Google Earth 6.2 update, Google added the option to share a screenshot of your current view in Google Earth through Google+. If you’ve already upgraded to Google+, you can share images of the places you’ve virtually traveled to with your Circles, such as family, friends or your local hiking club. To try this new feature, simply sign in to your Google Account in the upper right hand corner of Google Earth and click “Share.” Images of mountains, oceans, deserts, 3D cities, your favorite pizza shop on Street View - you can now experience all these amazing places around the world with people on Google+.

Search improvements

Also, some updates to the search feature in Google Earth have been made. Aside from streamlining the visual design of the search panel, Google enabled the same Autocomplete feature that’s available on Google Maps. We’ve also introduced search layers, which will show all the relevant search results (not just the top ten). So now, when looking for gelato in Milano, you can see all the tasty possibilities. Finally, Google added biking, transit and walking directions, so if you’re itching for a change of scenery or looking for a new route for your regular commute, you can now use Google Earth to generate and visualize all your options.
